JULIAN KRINSKY ESPORTS CAMP ANNOUNCED AS OFFICIAL TRAINING CAMP OF PHILADELPHIA FUSION UNIVERSITY
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Philadelphia Fusion University and Julian Krinsky Camps & Programs (JKCP) are excited to announce that the JKCP Esports Camp, powered by N3rd Street Gamers Academy (NSG) of Philadelphia, will be the Official Training Camp of the Philadelphia Fusion University team.
The Philadelphia Fusion, owned and managed by Comcast Spectator, represents Philadelphia in the professional Overwatch league, a Blizzard Entertainment game that has gained a worldwide audience. The Philadelphia Fusion has launched Fusion University, the academy team and pipeline of up and coming talent for the Fusion. This strategy will boost the team's competitive edge and help with recruitment as the franchise grows.
Fusion University’s team, of currently eight players and their coaches, will come together to attend the camp side-by-side with the other students enrolled in JKCP’s esports camp the weeks of July 8-21 & July 22-Aug 4, 2018. The Fusion University team will benefit from having the time to work together in person and build their strength working as a one unit. Additionally, their presence at the camp will have benefits that will be much more far reaching; the fan experience alone will be once in a lifetime, training and making connections with some of the top players in the world and gaining their insight into the sport will be invaluable to gamers interested in competing or building a career in esports.
JKCP’s esports camp will offer gamers a unique opportunity, not only molding talented young players into seasoned competitors and taking their game to the next level but giving them the once in a lifetime chance to play, train and learn alongside these talented Fusion University players. "The Fusion are excited to be a part of the Julian Krinsky Camps and continuing to build the esports foundation in Philadelphia,” said Hung Tran, Director of Marketing for the Philadelphia Fusion. “We feel this is the perfect opportunity to help the next generation of esports athletes and also a great chance for the fans to interact with the future of the Fusion. Elijah (@Elk) Gallagher our team captain, Kyung-bo (@Alarm) Kim, Seung-jun (@WhoRU) Lee and the rest of Fusion University are internationally recognized as some of the top Overwatch players in the world, and we are excited to have them experiencing the rich culture of Philadelphia alongside the other JKCP students this summer."
“With nearly $7 million dollars in scholarships being awarded from over 40 universities in the United States and close to $1 billion in tournament prize money handed out in 2017, there is no denying that esports has become a booming industry with an ever increasing list of professional opportunities for young athletes to explore as players and industry professionals”, said Sarah Ohanesian, Chief Marketing Officer at JKCP. She continued, “The goal of the JKCP and NSG Academy summer camp is to help mold young players into the best they can be, help them achieve their potential and educate them on how they can build a career in this thriving industry.”
The camp will help students identify gaming strengths, as well as design, compete in and produce a professional grade championship tournament event. “What sets this camp apart from others is the groundbreaking strategy to explore collegiate and professional opportunities within the ecosystem of esports”, said John Fazio founder of NSG. He added, “We will delve into all facets of the industry, through exposure to industry giants (Ex: Riot Games, Tencent, Activision Blizzard, Valve, Twitch.tv, Electronic Arts) and workshops with industry professionals. This will help young players gain insight into career networking, esports team building, media exposure, tournament marketing and the business of esports.”
There are two multi-week camp sessions available starting either July 8-21 or July 22-Aug 4, 2018; players must be between 10-13 or 14-18 years old to apply. During each session, students and instructors will choose their favorite game and train for an end of session tournament that culminates in a professional-grade, live-streamed championship match. Some of the games featured will include Dota 2 (MOBA), Overwatch (FPS), Starcraft (RTS), and Rocket League & FIFA (Sports). Residential students get the real collegiate experience, living at prestigious Philadelphia area universities in air-conditioned residence halls and enjoying on campus meals in the dining halls. Students will be transported daily to and from N3rd Street Academy in Philadelphia.
