New Pre-College Summer Program at Yale University; Technology, Academics & Sustainability
NEW HAVEN, CT – Yale University and Julian Krinsky Camps & Programs (JKCP) are proud to unveil a new pre-college summer program launching for 2018!
The program offers a two-week camp session available during July for students ages 15-16. The Yale Pre-College Summer Program is an immersive academic experience for high school students. Students will take an interactive rotation of academic enrichment classes built to teach the topics and skills needed to work on a group sustainability project. In groups, students will create an initiative focused on sustainability. To do this, students will combine their own creativity with the knowledge they gain in their classes to select a topic relating to an environmental issue facing our local or global communities.
This program provides students with a meaningful experience that raises their consciousness and empowers them to effect positive change, furthers global efforts and enhances sustainability. Academic enrichment classes are offered in Communications, Economics, Environmental Science, Politics and Technology.
“We are excited to see Gen Z (born 1995-2010) step into the world arena, one space they are giving huge attention is the area of Sustainability”, said Steve Robertson, Gen Z expert and CEO of JKCP. The amount of data highlighting this already is staggering; 84% want to change the direction the world appears to be headed, 71% believe they can make an impact and social listening reveals that Gen Z’s determination to make a difference and have an impact is making Social Entrepreneurship one of the top career choices for their generation. Robertson points out, “The data is compelling and once Gen Z is given an opportunity to dive deep into an area they are passionate about they are highly motivated. We are excited as Gen Z continues to bring their voice to Sustainability and our collective futures; this entrepreneurial, creative, energetic, motivated and caring group, are going to play a pivotal role in all of our futures.”
The project-based component of the program introduces high-level leadership, advocacy and teamwork training. Groups will agree upon an environmental issue, and use the knowledge learned in their classes to develop an initiative and begin to inspire change. Group work will be showcased during the Sustainability Symposium at the end of the session.
In addition, students will experience life on campus at Yale University and visit places such as the Yale Peabody Museum and the Yale Center for Engineering Innovation and Design. Students will also enjoy a weekend trip to New York City.
